Discomfort in psychoanalysis. Outstanding challenges

Why choose the term "malaise" to refer to Psychoanalysis in this Congress, when a new century and a new millennium are approaching? Why do it in Latin America, and more specifically, from Uruguay? These are the initial questions from which I will try to address some of the problems that I consider to be unavoidable today to strengthen the growth of psychoanalysis.

A verification is imposed: the concern is not new in our Association. Exactly 10 years ago, a previous Latin American Congress was held in Buenos Aires, dedicated on that occasion to the theme "The future of psychoanalysis". The Uruguayan story reviewed the experience of a research group and proposed textually (M. Nieto et al., 1982):

"Our communication is, therefore, the story of how we posed ourselves and worked on certain questions that were pressing to us in the present of psychoanalysis, as a moment in its history, in which we want to contribute so that it lives in the future.
